Leo O'Kelly and Sonny Condell, caught by Radio Bremen in a Bremen church in September 1973, just before their third album Strong in the Sun landed. Ireland's original progressive folk duo were at the height of their powers here: two acoustic guitars, close harmonies and songs that sit somewhere between Pentangle and Nick Drake without sounding like either. The setlist pulls from all three studio records, from Time Is Like a Promise off the debut through to new material, and closes with a lovely reading of Drake's Free Ride, sung while the man himself was still alive. The Radio Bremen tapes are famously well kept and this one is no exception. Essential for anyone who cares about the stranger corners of Irish folk.
